Eight Random Things About Me
Thayer tagged me. Kinda amused these things are still doing the rounds.
OK, so 8 random things about me would be:
1. I got my first tattoo to kill time while waiting for a train. It’s rubbish.
2. I’ve only had one knife pulled on me (with the intent to do me harm anyway).
3. I’ve been filmed for Canadian TV doing stand up poetry. Ouch.
4. I was once stopped from returning home from another country and had my passport held for a week.
5. I didn’t cut my hair once in over ten years. Very Metal.
6. The first live band I saw was Youth of Today. They scared the crap out of me.
7. I have a masters degree in postmodern literature. I specialised in Paul Auster (whom I met) and Cormac McCarthy (whom I didn’t).
8. I much prefer The Monkees to The Beatles. Go watch Head (and Ringo was way cooler than that Lennon cock simply for hanging out with Frank Zappa).
Crap. Now I’ve got to nominate another eight people? I’ll go for newish friends that I’d like to get to know better then:
Whit, Langley, Francine, Dan, Melissa, Christian, Bill and Selina.

Horay! Well done. Interesting stuff, always quite good fun to take a break from the normal blogging to just have an excuse to spout random personal stuff
Paul Auster?!? Arrrghhhh… Holly sh…. Waaooo
Hey Mike, what do you think about Ridley Scott directing the film version of Blood Meridian? Because it looks like a done deal. I’m kinda thinking he’s a bad choice, but I could be wrong. But of course, it’s beyond the ken of the Bros. Coen.
Thayer - My blog goes through phases of being nothing but random personal stuff
Thanks for the tag though.
Vin Vin - I take it you’re a fan too
Told you we had a lot in common.
Todd - I don’t think I’d be happy with anyone directing Blood Meridian. I loved No Country For Old Men and expect The Road to be as good, but these are both slight books. Big ideas of course (fucking HUGE ideas) but minimalist in presentation and with very little to chop out for screen. Blood Meridian is DENSE. No way you can do the novel justice in a movie time frame. A couple of seasons of HBO maybe, but then again a lot of Blood Meridian is simply unfilmable. Not just the violence, but rather the gnosticism that runs throughout. How the fuck do you get a CONCEPT like The Judge on screen. Casting anyone means you’ve already fucked up. It’s a little like the game
Still, be interesting to see what Scott and co. make of it… it sure as hell won’t be Blood Meridian though.
Done and done. I have unleashed my randomness to the world. Don’t know if I can beat being filmed on Canadian TV doing stand up poetry though
Mike, my sentiments exactly.
I think the only way to even attempt Blood Meridian on the screen would be the Cronenberg / Naked Lunch route of not even bothering to mirror the book except for certain touchstones. Or maybe the Bertolucci / Sheltering Sky route of making a film that only makes sense to those who have read the book.
Bring ye possibles.
Looks like I have some work in store for me.
