Lifeboat

I have over 10,000 photos up on Flickr. Not a bad number considering I stopped actively using the site once Yahoo got its miserable claws into it. But around this time last year I allowed my pro account to be renewed simply because I didn’t want my photos held hostage over there. Later today I’ll finally get around to launching the rescue mission with Bulkr. I’ll let you know how it goes.
I don’t really have a plan for the photos so will probably dump them in Picasa until a new site dominates this space.
Also had a huge digital storage mishap this month so I’ll be primarily using the cloud for everything in 2011.This has had me digging through a few personal archives over Christmas and finding a lot of stuff I’d forgotten existed. I’m now looking forward to going through my Flickr refugees and giving my own memory a bit of a shake…

Seemed apt at the end of a week in which we became so scared of young people we rode horses down on them and beat them with batons.

I’ve been pondering the Western again lately. Been a while since my MA, but pulled down some of the books that helped me draw a line from John Ford to Cormac McCarthy and I’ve just been nudged to revisit Lucio Fulci’s spaghetti westerns. And I’m still thinking a lot about Red Dead Redemption (and to a lesser extent its horror add-on). Icons and their subversion, myth and revisionism… and over the weekend I think I’ll go back to Zane Grey.
So it was nice when my GReader offered up the latest from Golden Age Comic Book Stories:

Still alive…
Not sure if Danny Trejo was talking about his friend, Tom Sizemore, or my lack of blog updates this year…
It would be easy to blame Twitter or my unfounded distrust of Tumblr and Posterous, but I’ve just been busy elsewhere. Another script in the bag last month and two more this month with a little luck. Just bouncing from one jumble of words to the next and neglecting the blog as I go. Sorry about that.
So what’s new?
Well, with a little luck I’m seeing TRON: LEGACY later today. It’s around 7am now and my sleep pattern has been pretty non existent this month, but I still managed to miss a bunch of preview screenings. I used to put this down to bad time management on my part, but actually the more I write the more thinking I have to do and before you know it a week had skipped by while I’ve been considering the thermosphere or how to steal a spaceship.

Today I’m actually looking to take a rare day off, catch up with an old friend and (hopefully) watch Jeff Bridges do his thing. Which should keep me going until TRUE GRIT (which I’m told is near damn perfect).
So it’s all good.
2011 is already shaping up to be a fun year. For fun read ‘even busier than 2010′ so I’ll have to find some kind of blogging solution if this is going to get back to anything but a very slow Twitter feed.
Bear with me while I figure that out.
I think the coffee shop just opened…
