Thanks to Mike for the reminder about HANNA.
And I think I’m seeing this on Monday:
Red State has a lot of hype around it and the trailer is looking none to shabby, but I can’t help but wonder if Kevin Smith has the teeth to take on Fred Phelps and the vile Westboro headcases.
I’m thinking that maybe Rob Zombie would’ve been a better bet to tackle this particular family/church of nasties.
Hopefully I’ll be proved wrong (it has happened once before).
I’m looking forward to Smith step up with this one. Plus I sat through Cop Out to get here so it’d better be bloody good…
I’m not a Rob Zombie fan. He’s way too obvious for me. I know exactly where he’d go with this material. Smith? Fuck knows…
Fair point about knowing where Zombie would go with it. Still, ‘Devil’s Rejects’ rates as one of my top 20 films.
Hanna looks pretty awesome with bonus points for split second Olivia Williams.
Hey Talia, lots of love for Olivia. Did you watch Terriers? She guest starred a few eps in. Best new show of last year so of course if was cancelled…
Another thought I had regarding Red State – sorry to keep on about it, but I am looking forward to giving a shot – is that all the (official?) publicity and hype in the build up to its release has stated that it’s based on Fred Phelps and the Westboro loonies.
Although names, events etc will be changed and most probably rendered in a clearly exaggerated manner, where would the film makers stand legally on all this, given the association with the subject matter that’s already arisen?
After all, Phelps was himself, by all accounts, a shit hot lawyer; one who, astoundingly, specialised in civil rights.
To be honest I’m more interested because of the actors involved and the departure it marks for Smith. Although as a god botherer himself his take on Phelps and co should be interesting.
